Anxiety and the Key to Happiness
May 2, 2008 2:31 pm Life choices, anxiety disorders, key to happinessDo you scoff at positive thinking, daily affirmations, the search for happiness? Then perhaps you’ve never had a panic attack or suffered from anxiety disorder. Many are convinced that these are brought on by the opposite of positive thinking: negative self-talk.
Anxiety is worry and concern for the future. In its normal state anxiety is a warning system that can help us avoid danger and harm. When it becomes so severe that it interferes with our daily lives, it has become a disorder.
All in one day this week I met three people who have suffered from different types of anxiety disorders: post traumatic stress, agoraphobia and temporarily paralysis caused by panic. To their credit all three of them have sought help, gotten treatment and learned to bring their anxiety under control so they can live normal lives.
Some of you are probably thinking–anxiety is just in our minds. And you’re right. But it can have devastating effects if not brought under control.
Yaro Starak, a young, good looking and successful blogger recently shared his own experience with panic attacks. He enjoys a portable lifestyle that’s possible with an online business, a laptop and Internet access. And yet, one day for no apparent reason Yaro experienced a panic attack.
Fortunately he had a supportive family who recognized his disorder and urged him to seek help. Today he may still get an attack, but he knows how to control it.
